Murky Superior Hiking Trail

SHT Forest Boardwalk

I took this photo on my way to Lake Agnes during a Memorial weekend trek on the Superior Hiking Trail.  The entire day’s hike was shrouded in thick mist which gave the trail a mysterious atmosphere.  Strange low-pitched thumping noises could be heard throughout the foggy woods – it was the call of the Ruffled Grouse.

Enchanted Forest Trail

Enchanted Forest Light

I took this photo at the end of a long and soggy day on the Superior Hiking Trail.  It had been pouring all day, but the rain magically stopped as soon as I stumbled into my campsite.  The forest came alive with golden sun rays pouring through the endless moss-riden trees.  This trail is located along the Lake Superior shoreline of Minnesota and is well known to backpackers.

Far Reaches of Minnesota

Northern Exposure

Here’s a shot from my recent road trip up to Grand Portage State Park which is located at the Northeastern point of Minnesota.  My photo comrade and I hiked in a snowstorm in hopes of photographing the high falls.  The views were spectacular along our hike with deep canyons, rootbeer dyed rapids, and endless rolling hills of trees and rocks.

The Red Hunter

Return of Foxy

It was a beautiful warm sunny spring day on Barn Bluff in Red Wing, MN.  I was hiking up the south bluff trail when this lovely red fox popped out onto the trail.  The fox paused for a minute to look at me before trotting off.  I wasn’t sure if it was male or female but, I figured it was a parent because it was carrying a mouse in it’s jaws.  Seeing this charming creature thriving in it’s habitat gave me great joy.
